Julia Theek

Note sull’ artista

Julia Theek was born in Postdam, Germany. She studied aesthetics, art and media at the Humboldt University of Berlin, 1988-1995.

She started exhibiting computer graphics in 1988, assemblages in 1990, multi-media installation of photography, candles, linoleum cuts and antiseptic smell for the “37 Räume” exibition in Berlin – Auguststraße in 1992. She also partecipated in a seminar in film production at the USC in 1993. Mrs. Theek made music videos and documentaries going from medieval street music, pop and Russian folk.

She switched focus to painting with “The unseen Warhol”, “New York Meet” in 1997. Julia Theek also made a cycle of acrylic paintings with palaces and ruins from the “European – Visual Storm II” keeping and catching the extreme angles of the videos in perspective or geometries.

She also developed an own airbrush technique, bringing the workmanlike competence of motorcycle design in Berlin’s backyards and street art to bear on aspects of high culture. Furthermore, cutting each set of masks and stencils numbering six to twenty pieces for up five paintings with varies contexts, color shades and lighting counterbalanced the exacting paperwork by sculpting – preferring Carrara marble exhibited at the “Antiques collection” in Berlin, “Kulturkaufhaus” in Hamburg, Schloss Branitz, “kunstraum” and “Palais Lichtenau” in Postdam.
